Applying to Columbia Visiting Student Program

Hi all.

I want to go to Columbia next fall semester. I am currently a student at BU, and has a 2.85 GPA. I didn't expect the GPA so low, but I still have to go to Columbia...

There are two programs available. One is for Columbia College and the other is for School of Continuing Education. I don't care whichever I go, because I understand that studying at Columbia will bring me a good experience and staying in NYC will give me opportunities to intern and do part-time jobs.

I saw that the GPA requirement for the program is to be 3.0 or higher. I am wondering if I still have a chance. I got bad professors this semester for we have no choice to make when we are choosing classes. And I didn't work hard enough. I believe that I would work harder and get a much better GPA next semester. I got 3.7 GPA at Harvard Summer School last summer. (That proves my ability of studying, I think.)

Tell me what you guys think. I also founded a NPO in MA and run business of a magazine in China. So will that be a plus or not? I don't know, do they primarily focus on GPA? If you pass the line, they take you?

I mean, it's just a visiting program, they don't really offer you a degree.
