My daughter has applied. Anyone else? She's interested in Chinese and environmental policy.

Hi apollo–my DS thought about it then changed his mind. Applied to the honors college, though. Good luck to your daughter! They seem like excellent programs.

Best wishes Apollo6 and DD!

DD has applied to Croft, Flagship and Accounting. Does anyone know when the Croft and Flagship programs announce their admissions?

I know that the Croft scholarship interviews are in the middle of February. If memory serves me correctly (4 years ago), I think DDs had invitations by the first week or so in March. Don’t be afraid to give them a call!

Okay, thank you for the information. I’ll give them a call!

DD13 received Croft admission notice via email today. Good luck to your D, ddsearcy!

Congrats to your daughter Apollo6!

Yes, congrats to you Apollo 6! D still has not heard anything from Croft but was notified late last night that the flagship selections were complete and that she would be notified next week. Fingers crossed!!!

Thanks! I hope they notify everyone soon. Accounting and Chinese sounds like an interesting option. My D is also waiting for Lott.

DD accepted to Flagship. Still waiting for Lott. Anyone else? I need to book flights for her to visit this spring. Any recommendations for profs to meet, classes to visit etc.?

Daughter accepted to Flagship, Croft and Honors. She’s applied to the NSLI-Y year long Chinese program and made it to semi-finalist so now we’re waiting to see if she’s been accepted. If she is then we may have to defer enrollment for a year but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it…

If you haven’t been to the campus yet then you’ll be in for a treat. Its beautiful and well maintained and the faculty are great. Every time we’ve been there we’ve come away impressed. Congrats to your D and good luck with Lott!

DD did the NSLIY program last summer. Yours too? Her younger brother is on the Beijing year program this year. He’s working hard but having a great time. Good luck to your D! Do you think the Chinese classes at the Flagship will be a high enough level for her if she does the NSLIY year program first? Im not so sure.

She visited for junior preview day a few years ago but hasn’t been there on a week day. Younger brother was there last summer for SCHSS. Yes, it is a impeccably maintained campus.

Apollo6: I do know they place students according to prior experience.

Nate would be a good person to call to meet with to talk about the program and to arrange meetings with professors and class observation times:

Mr. Nethaneel Flake (Nate), Coordinator

As the UM Chinese Flagship Program Coordinator, Nate is the first point of contact for students and prospective students alike. He is available to field questions about the program and respond to any Flagship-related technical issues that arise for students regarding their classes, international flights, or scholarship funds, and prospective students regarding their applications.

I was just admitted to the University this week. I’d like to apply for Lott and the Honors College. I realize the application deadline for these have passed. I was thinking of submitting the applications anyways. Do you think they might have a chance of being considered?

Congrats on your acceptance to Ole Miss!

Though the Honors College received a record number of applicants this year, I suggest you email Ryan Upshaw (he’s great!) and ask if he suggests that you still apply. If this is not an option for you, remember that the honors college admits students for the junior year!

Here is the information:

Honors College Receives Record Number of Applications

The Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College received a record 1,133 applications by its January 15 deadline. Teachers and counselors have until the end of January to submit their letters of recommendation. Students who did not apply by the deadline may still do so through May 1, although qualified late applicants will be placed on a waitlist. Applicants can access the Special Programs and Scholarships application by clicking here.

Those who applied by the deadline will be notified of our admissions decision by March 1st. Early action applicants (those who applied by November 1 and have a complete application by November 15) were notified of our admission decision by December 20. All successful applicants—including early action applicants—will have until May 1, 2013 to accept or decline the offer of admission. If you have any questions regarding the application process, you may e-mail rlupshaw@olemiss.edu for assistance.

Here is the information for Junior year admissions:

Ole Miss must have the most encouraging and supportive staff on Earth! My dh says its just Southern hospitality but no other university, North or South, in or out of the US has communicated with my D this way. I will be very happy if (When) she commits to attending Ole Miss.

I couldn’t agree with you Apollo6. All the contact I have had with Ole Miss Admissions and other departments have been so wonderful. It’s a totally different vibe from other schools I have applied to.
