Applying to CSU's with different majors

Is it possible that students are allowed to apply to multiple campuses with a different major? I’m planning to apply to pre-nursing for CSUSM but public health for SDSU because the nursing school at SDSU is way too competitive.

Yes, you can apply to different majors at different CSU’s, there’s no problem with that at all.

Just an FYI: SDSU’s Nursing school is only direct admit for Freshman and no longer accepts internal transfers, so you plan to get your BS in Public Health from SDSU or do you have plans to go to Nursing school?

Cant you change majors…Lets say you got in to a school as a Public Health/Health Sciences/undeclared major, can’t you still take the nursing pre-reqs and change your major to nursing? Does an impacted major affect your college acceptance? @abcdefgh88 @oneofthosemoms @Gumbymom

Yes, you can change majors once accepted but impacted majors usually have higher standards for acceptance so they can be more difficult to switch into later. If applying for an impacted major, select a non-impacted major (if possible) as your alternate. Since you are interested in the CSU’s, here is a link indicating which majors at each campus are impacted. Nursing is impacted at all CSU campuses.

@almaa_card123, changing majors is going to depend on the college in question. @Gumbymom pointed out that the scenario you are asking about is not allowed at SDSU. You’d have to check each CSU to see if they allow transfers into their nursing programs. And yes, applying to an impacted major affects your odds of being accepted to a particular CSU.

Posted at same time as @Gumbymom, she has great info.
