I know that the general advice is to mention both majors in one essay, but I'd like to have more space to write about each one so I was thinking about making an account for each major. Is this possible or are we limited to just one account?

logic 101…

…so you would submit different apps under the same name to different schools…?

Ahahaha… please do it and let us know how it goes…

Yes, Redo, that is correct. And maybe I’m just an idiot but I don’t know what message you other two are trying to convey. (English composition 101? ;)) This is the first time I’m applying to college, I’m VERY lost, and I’m trying to tread lightly. I have an image - irrational or not - of admissions assuming I’m being dishonest because I submitted apps under two different accounts. Now can any of you good folks help me out?

YES it would be dishonest. Don’t do it. You need to try to incorporate both of your interests into one essay. Sucks, but many people have had to do it and with a little creativity, you can do it too.

Thanks for the clear answer, redo!

It depends, I’m applying to several different schools with 3 entirely different majors, but my end goal is the same (engineering), so I’m going to just write that. Good luck man!

Thanks for the advice, wwlink - much appreciated. Good luck to you too!

AWESOME THREAD. I feel like at home. -----not trying to hijack, but it’s just what I was going to start a new thread for ------

I’m applying to UCB as Legal Studies, to UCLA as Psych (they have #1 Clinical Psych program in the nation), to UCSD and UCD as Philosophy (TAG).

Unluckily, the 4 schools share the app. So my first transfer essay has to include at least 2 majors (I’m not so worried about UCSD and Davis since I’m an Honors student with 4.0 UC transferrable GPA and TAG), but UC Berkeley and UCLA - I will face some struggle.
My main goal is Law School, so that kind of justifies Legal Studies major at UCB and Phil at UCSD and UCD. But how the hell am I supposed to “express interest in major” for UCLA? I am truly fascinated by neuroscience and psychology, and I would love to have it as my major. But I want to make sure I get into all these schools. I’m afraid to not pay enough attention to either major in my essay and get rejected by both UCLA and UCB.

Maybe me and OP can converse about this mind-bending subject since we’re kind of in the same boat, or if anyone else has some suggestions they would like to share - let’s talk! :)

thanks

Two apps under the same name is not allowed. Even if its under different e-mail accounts, when they check your SSN and your score reports it will look really sketchy.

LOL SmartPants! Welcome to the thread, glad you’re here.

I was having trouble, and my two majors are anthropology (UCB and UCD, TAG’d for the latter) and psychology (UCLA - TAP if that matters). I’m a little better off since they’re more related than yours, but I’m also terrified of not showing enough passion for both of them in the same essay. Honestly, I have a lot more to write about anthro because of the cultural experiences I’ve had, but I still love psych.

How do you think you’re going to approach the essay?

I wouldn’t be here if I knew
kiddin

But I know that I have to make them believe that having multiple interests is normal. lol.

If you don’t mind me asking, why are you applying as anthro to Berkeley? Is it because Psych at Berkeley requires pre-med bio, chem and physiology and UCLA doesn’t? ;)

I personally thought it was going to be a waste of another year at CCC if I had to go that route. YOu?

Well I started out as a psych major, but when I took my first social anthropology class, it was a totally awesome experience and I wanted to change majors. The pre-reqs for anthro at UCLA were an issue, while I had psych’s done, but for UCB anthro I was on track. I actually ended up finishing all but one bio pre-req for UCB psych, and when I changed it made me sad because I went through a lot of trouble, including enrolling at different colleges, getting them done. :(

At any rate, I’d be glad to study either of these great fields at any of these great colleges. (And it does make me feel more secure as an anthro major to UCB considering how impacted psych is…)

For your essay, you can show them how you have diverse and flexible interests, a regular polymath! How many words do you have to work with? I ended up writing a longer prompt #2, so I’m a bit more restricted with space for both my majors.

@smartpants i’m appling for legal studies at berkeley as well. Does Econ 1 and 2 both need to be completed? I only completed Econ 2 and the assist page is confusing because it says 1 and 2 but “legal studies only requires one economics course”. Can anyone else also chime in?

Of your four schools, only LA and B take the essay into account; Base your essay around why you want to learn Psych & Legal studies at the University of California
