Applying to different UC's with different Intended Majors.

Hi guys, i’ve had a question about the University of California admission procedure, and can’t seem to find an answer from any even remotely credible source, so i thought i’d ask here on CC!

I was wondering if one UC can see what major/college we applied to at another UC. I’m planning on applying to UCLA for civil engineering (college of engineering) and UC berkeley for their applied mathematics (L&S). I was worried that if admissions officers can see that i applied for another major elsewhere, they may think i’m not really interested in a course, or worse, applying for an easier major just to improve my chances, even though this isn’t the case.

I just preferred the vibe of Cal’s L&S college and the breadth of their applied maths programme to their engineering college, but UCLA has a civil engineering professor that i really want to study under and their programme has aspects that i am really interested in.

Any answers/opinions would be very very much appreciated! Am an international student, so admissions is slightly harder for me, thus i feel even minute technicalities like this might have an amplified impact on my admission chances!

Thanks in advance!!

IMHO, The ad. com. evaluates your application against other candidates’. They don’t know, and don’t care if you apply somewhere else.

This may apply to graduate programs, not so for undergrad. The chances that you as an undergrad will “study under” a particular professor are slim.

They don’t care where else you’re applying or for what. They have thousands of applications to read which is their priority, not taking precious time to see where else a student might be interested in. They know–and probably expect–that you’re applying elsewhere.

Thank you so much for the answers! Just thought it might look “weird” that i’m applying to an engineering college at one UC and the L&S at another. Good to know i was just unnecessarily freaking out.
