I am going to be doing UC apps starting next year for admission in Fall 2013 at UCLA and Berkeley. The major I want to choose at UCLA is Biochemistry and at Berkeley I want to choose Applied Mathematics. Since one of the personal statement questions is why we are choosing the major we are choosing, will doing this hurt my chances of admission?

Why would you choose a very different major at each school, instead of applied math at both schools or biochemistry / molecular and cell biology at both schools?

Don’t worry, lots people choose different majors for different schools. Just talk about sciences and applied sciences as well as you interest in qualitative classes and what you plan to do with your degree.
