I take the most difficult curriculum offered by my school.

I know my GPA is really weak but since my junior year it has been well over a 4.0.
I have other service but there was a lot to list so I just offered some of the highlights of my EC's.

What do you think? Duke? Vanderbilt? Duke and Vanderbilt? Neither?

I would say that you are probably in at Vanderbilt, but Duke will be more of a reach. Your ECs and courseload are both strong, but there are plenty of students with the same (or higher) PLUS higher GPA/SAT scores. Overall though, I think you have a fair chance at Duke and a great chance at Vandy.

Lol it is a little embarassing when you have the most posts on your own thread. Can I have a few more chances so that I can gain some perspective on my apps? Please?

Is your class rank in top 20 percent?......

Vanderbilt likes kids in the top 5 percent, but you still have great chance because your sat scores and decent gpa show that your school is compeitive.

Duke might be a lot tougher. Not only is duke acceptance rate lower, but it has a lot more applicants. Applicants who have higher sat scores and are in the top 10 percent of their class....

Duke will be tough. Your SAT and GPA is kinda low for Duke applicants' standards, and the ECs are not spectacular, although your startup of the service club is great.

I can see you getting into Vanderbilt. However, if you had a 4.0+ GPA and a higher class rank I would think your chances are higher...

As mentioned, your SAT is a bit low, as is your rank/GPA. National Merit Commended is not something that people will be jumping all over, but it is something good. I dunno about Duke, nor Vanderbilt, but they are possible. Essays and recs are important here.

I feel the same way about my apps. I do believe, though, that my essays and recs are strong. I got into Miami's (Ohio) Honors College which is rather competitive with 1430 average SAT and average class rank in the top 3% and I think that is mainly on account of my essays and recs.
