Applying to Engineering Schools

Hey all,

I am a senior that has a high interest in engineering. I am applying to many good schools such as UC Berkeley, Duke, etc. that have strong engineering programs. Is it too much of a risk to apply to the engineering departments rather than the colleges of letters and science? I really want to get into the college, but I also would prefer to begin engineering.

Thanks

If you want to go into engineering then apply to those. Some colleges will not allow you to take an engineering degree if you were accepted into the college of arts and science.

If you have already decided that you want to be an engineering major, why would you apply to A&S rather than engineering?

Even though it is usually easier to gain admission into a college as a A&S major, you run the risk of not being able to transfer into Engineering once accepted. If you decide Engineering is not your thing, it is much easier to transfer OUT of Engineering than to transfer INTO Engineering. At UC Berkeley, for example, it is next to impossible to transfer into Engineering after the fact.

okay thanks a bunch all of you
