Hi, guys! This is my first post. I basically need some advice about recommendations, specifically for Fu Foundation. I know Fu Foundation requires a recommendation from a math teacher. However, I didn’t do so well in my honors precalc class last year. I got a B, but the class was tough for me. I have the same teacher for AP Computer Science A, and I’m maintaining an A+ in her class now. CompSci is a math class as well. I want to submit recommendations only from my AP Chem and AP History (alumni) teachers.

Would it be ok to just have my AP Chem and AP History teachers send in recs?

Should I ask all three to send in recommendations?

I read in a past post that this is a rule that you can bend. I think it's allowed if you send a math/sci recommendation and not specifically a math one.

i'd talk to your precalc/compsci teacher and see what she thinks of you. ask her what sorts of things she might want to put in a recommendation, and if she asks you why you're asking, just say you're trying to tell if it would be worth it for her to write that rec - i.e. to see whether or not she can give a unique perspective on you to the admissions committee.

if you like the way she views you, then submit all 3. Remember that it's a good thing if her thoughts are, "well, you struggled at first in my precalc class, but you worked hard, overcame that, and now you're a much better student now that i have you in compsci". that tells a story, and the kind of story an adcom wants to hear.

Thanks for the advice Denzera. I asked her for the recommendation, and she agreed to write it. She didn't hesitate even once. We're more like friends than anything else. So, she can comment on personal qualities. She did mention that she would try to talk about my performance in both classes and put everything into an appropriate context.

One more thing, would four recommendation be too excessive? I'm considering sending four because they are written. They would be from my yearbook adviser, my precalc/compsci teacher, my chem teacher, and my history teacher (alumnus). The yearbook adviser wrote the rec as an adviser. I specifically told her to talk about my commitment to yearbook and what she has learned about me over the years.
