I'm an incoming freshman and took a lot of community college courses in high school. I basically fulfilled all my prereqs for Haas except for statistics and UGBA 10 which I'm both taking first semester. I want to apply to Haas as a freshman because I satisfy the requirements, but I'm not sure if this is allowed as Haas only looks at stuff you did in college and not high school. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Community college courses taken before matriculating to Berkeley can be used against business prerequisites, according to [FAQs, Undergraduate Programs, Berkeley-Haas](<a href=“Admission FAQ - Undergraduate Program - Berkeley Haas”>Admission FAQ - Undergraduate Program - Berkeley Haas) . Note that you also need to reach 60 units by the end of the spring semester in the academic year you apply.

If you are admitted, you will be allowed two academic years to complete the degree and graduate, according to [Academic Guidelines, Undergraduate Programs, Berkeley-Haas](http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/academic_guidelines.html) .

Even if you could do this, it wouldn’t be a good idea.

Your AP, IB and dual-enrollment (i.e. community college, etc.) courses as well as those you take in your fall and spring semesters all count toward the 60-unit requirement. This will be tabulated on BearFacts and doesn’t appear, at first glance, to be a problem for you, given that you’ll take ~30 units during the upcoming year.

As ucbalumnus pointed out, you’ll have 2 years from the fall semester after you receive admission (assuming you receive admission) to finish all Haas requirements. Assuming you tackle your breadth alongside UGBA 10 and Stats 20/21 next year, you should be fine.

Despite all of this, I’d strongly caution you not to apply after your first year unless you wouldn’t mind majoring in your back-up major or have an incredible resume by the application due date (around Thanksgiving). You will be competing with applicants that have had the extra year to acquire leadership positions, internships and jobs and you will be at a significant disadvantage. Moreover, you can only apply to Haas one time, so if you were declined admission next year, you’d be unable to reapply next year if you decided to stay for the 4th year.

If you do apply, you may want to consider deferring Stats to the spring in order to better ensure success in UGBA 10 (since you only have 2 pre-reqs to begin with) and consider enrolling in Haas classes, most likely in the spring, to get a jump start on the major or to make progress toward a back-up major in the case that the Haas class count count toward that.

for your consideration: you’re only allowed to apply once.

I appreciate the feedback! I’m leaning more against applying this year, but I’m not quite sure what I should do with my first two semesters since I fulfilled most of the prereqs and 5 of the 7 breath requirements. If I majored in, say, economics, I think I would be able to graduate in 3 years. As much as I want to stay 4 years, finances are also a concern. Double majoring is also an option. Other thoughts?

If you apply in freshman year to business, are accepted, and major in business, you will have to graduate in six semesters. With other majors, you may be able to decide later whether to graduate in six, seven, or eight semesters.
