Applying to Haas in fall from a JC

This is my first time posting on CC, so if I made a duplicate post, oh well bare with me. I would like to have prospective Haas applicants post up their stats and for people (especially those who successfully transferred to Haas from a community college) post feedback. Good luck to everyone.

GPA: 4.0
Prereqs: only have 1 done but will complete the rest this fall and spring.
Units: 50... took 4 or 5 classes a semester
E.C., experience, etc.: SIFE, PTK, work in customer service 30hrs a week for 2 years (management positions, trainer), worked with my dad managing his small business my whole life.
Circumstances: first in family to attend college, dad is an immigrant

I dont know what else to put but what do you think my chances are for Haas? Thanks for your input.

Hard to say…you barely finished your 1st year. Your ECs are average, GPA is good but you haven’t taken a lot of prereqs yet (your ability to do well in econ and calc is crucial), being first in your family to go to college doesn’t mean anything. I don’t know what kind of leadership you have, what awards you have won or what kind of community service you do.

My advice: Take 4-5 prereqs in the fall or else you will be rejected with so many left over in the spring. If you write good personal statements, they will help you substantially. You can talk about your background and being first in your family to go to college, etc there.

Units Completed: 55.5 (about 43 transferable)
GPA: 4.00

Prereqs Completed/Grades:
Econ 1, A
Econ 2, A
Accounting 1, A

Prereqs in Progress:
Statistics; taking right now for summer

Prereqs to be completed:
Intro to Business
Accounting 2
Calculus 1
Calculus 2

Both core English classes and transferable math completed with A’s (English 101, English 102, Precalculus)

ECs: Very little, which worries me. Member of the Economics club during the Fall and Treasurer of the Economics club during Spring. Also had a seasonal job for a month. Other than that, nothing =(

I will also be TAP/Honors certified by Fall 2012. (aka i will do 18 units of Honors classes)

Poserbruin, do you have to do accounting for Haas?

also is it required now that you fulfill all the english requirements before the spring of going to haas?

i just looked at Assist and it doesn’t say anything about Accounting. i guess i got confused and posted the prereqs I have to do for UCLA as well. and about the english, i’m not sure…it says 2012 applicants dont have to do them but it doesn’t make sense to be able to transfer to UC Berkeley without having finished at least one english composition class.

@poserbruin

GPA is good atm but you left the weeder classes for last. Don’t know how well haas will view that 4.0 when you still need calc 2 in the spring =(.

Anyway to crank those out in the summer/fall

ya im going to take calculus in fall along with econ 1 and 2…then stats in winter and calc2 in spring with my foreign language…but im going to try 2 work on the ec’s now its juss hard cus work is so time consuming…but thanx for your input, i appreciate it.
