I am a senior getting ready to apply to Berkeley. Does it ultimately matter what's major I apply if I eventually am going to apply to Haas( I realize there are some pre-req classes)? Is it hard to switch into economics if I don't apply for that on my undergrad app?

Both the business administration and economics majors require applying to declare, typically in one’s second year for those who entered as freshmen. Many of their prerequisite courses are the same courses.

It doesn’t matter what major you put on your application, just make sure the school is right (Engineering, L&S, etc.) since you can easily switch majors within the school or change your mind before you declare. If you’re interested in Haas then L&S is probably right for you.

You can apply to Haas regardless of which original major you apply for on your application to Berkeley. That being said, and as noted above, I’d too recommend applying to something in L & S, preferably a major that naturally interests you, to align with your application. To my knowledge, you can also work toward any other major in the school in which yo originally apply without any problem.

Thank you!
