I'll be attending IU in the fall. I am not a direct admit to Kelley but am going to apply the end of freshmen year...which means freshmen year I'm just taking all the prereqs and what not.

Besides keeping up my grades...what advice would you all give to me for making myself appear as a good candidate? How important are leadership positions? Is getting a high GPA good enough, or are extracurriculars and leadership positions very imporant as well? Does the major you apply under really make a difference? Like are there majors that are harder to get into, or are you just applying to the school on the whole?

Getting into Kelley is a big goal for me, and I am willing to put forth all the effort and work required to get in. Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Someone may correct me if I'm wrong, but your desired major doesn't make a difference. You don't technically declare one until Junior year, even if you are in Kelley.

I also think that all that's really important is your GPA. Make sure you look at those Grade Distributions, see what the average GPA of each professor is in those classes, and get in one's where you can safely build it up. The Math classes are notorious for low grading.

Actually if you are an incoming business major you declared which major concentration you wanted (finance, accounting, management, business law, etc.) at the time of admittance. Then they either gave you that or they didn't (and put your major down as "undeclared")

However, I think A2Wolves6 is correct that you are applying to the Kelley school as a whole and not to any particular area of concentration. Thus, whether you have already declared a major (or declare one when applying to Kelley) is probably unimportant.

I think the thing about the major is that they want to know which one you are pursuing so that your advisor can make sure you take the right courses from semester to semester. Many business majors have different requirements--for example International business requires a foreign language, while all other business major don't have this requirement.

Thanks!

As for the math class thing...do you guys know how Dabrowski is for Finite?

I had Dabrowski. I only went to class a couple times. He is funny, but I don't see a point in going to lectures. Webwork is annoying but it's easy points. Your grade is determined through 4 tests and your webwork, if you are good at math it shouldn't be too hard.
