Applying to Michigan?

I want to apply to Michigan, but my GPA sucks. I have a 2.97 and 3.65 weighted . I have a good ACT score of 34 and 36 superscored. I have a long list of activities, but I know at the end of the day my GPA will bring me down. I am planning on applying EA to increase my chances but are there any ways to boost my chances? I’ve heard that applying to the Residential College increases your chances of getting in, is this true?

That sub 3.0 GPA (Michigan does not consider weighted GPA) is going to pinch. Does your school have major grade deflation? Are high GPAs unusual?

Applying to the Residential College doesn’t help your admissions chances at all, that’s decidedly untrue. You have to get accepted to LSA first, but once you’re accepted to LSA you automatically get accepted to the RC provided that there’s still space in the program.

You will need to tell your story about why your GPA is so low. What has prevented a bright I kid like your from being more successful? Has something happened? Or did you start with very low grades and have now cuceeded in bringing them up slowly? Unless you have some sort of compelling story to explain the GPA your chances of admission are slim. But if you do you could get in.

Think about transfer, either through CC or other UMich campus.

I would think you would increase your chances by doing RD…allowing your GPA another semester to improve. In state or OOS?

@HRSMom Unfortunately, even one semester of straight A would only bring the uwGPA to ~3.15. It is not going to help even for in state.
