Applying to Multiple Departments at the Same School

Would applying to more than one department at the same school help or hurt my chances of getting into that school? In theory, it should double my chances, but it could also show a lack of focus or commitment.

The topic I want to study, nanoscience and nanomaterials, is essentially multidisciplinary. I've got background in Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering (they're lumped together in one major at my undergrad), so I could apply to both MS and ME departments at the schools I'm looking at.

So can I double my chances by applying to multiple departments, or is that a bad move?

They usually don’t care unless they specifically state that you cannot apply to more than one program in that school.

I agree with Kryptonsa36. It doesn’t hurt you. sometimes they even encourage you to apply for more than one programs. so, go ahead, and this should increase your chance to get into the program as well.

HI,can some one give me some help,I am interested in doing M.S multidisciplinary course with one subject as the core of my M.Tech -Nuclear Science
