Is it common practice for kids to apply to multiple selective programs that compete with one another? I can't help but feel that it is a little rude to apply to a program with limited spots and then decline, as you've received a better offer elsewhere. Is this a silly, antiquated notion?

i had the same issue!!! check out the thread i started…it may help…

Of course it’s silly, although it’s not antiquated.

I’m applying to five or six; would’ve gone for more if I had bothered to fill in some apps two months ago. The point is to have backups and such.

Many very selective programs have waiting lists, so even if you decline a couple, you’re just giving spots to other people.

Thanks, all!
