Hello everyone,
I applied ED to CAS undecided, and now I am worried that this is going to be a problem. I have some ideas about what I want to do, but have no decided yet, so I didn't want to commit to a certain major right now. Is this going to hurt my chances of getting in at all?
Keep in mind that I did write about my interests in my NYU supplement.

I don’t think that declaring “Undecided” will hurt your chances of getting in, but be prepared to be placed in the Liberal Studies program instead of the College of Arts and Sciences.

In their questions on the common app about whether or not you would like to be considered for placement in alternate schools if placement in your first choice school isn’t possible, I said no. Does this mean I can not be placed in the Liberal Studies program?
Also, if placed in this program, can I transfer out of it?

The liberal studies program is a 2 year program. After 2 years, as long as you maintain a reasonable GPA, you are guaranteed admission into any of the NYU schools (though maybe not Stern…i dont’ know) - but CAS, definitely.

Unfortunately, I think that if you indicated you do not want to be considered for an alternative choice school, you will not be considered for the liberal studies program. But that doesn’t mean you won’t be accepted - it just means that you might have lessened your chances. However, I don’t know your scores/ecs, all of that, so I can’t make a clear judgement. For that matter, no one on College Confidential can.

Thanks a bunch- I think it is for the best. I wouldn’t want to have to wait two years to gain admission to an NYU school. I would rather begin studies in my areas of interest as soon as possible. If I get rejected from CAS, I supposed that I would be better off at a different college entirely. I have a 2160 on my SATs and a 4.1 W GPA. Here’s to hoping we both get in! :)

Well your SAT sounds very good. My stats aren’t that good. I have a 3.97 weighted GPA and a 2040. I redid my SAT, but I don’t know if it will get there by the time they read my application.
