Can’t wait to apply! Got to take my SAT and fill in all the necessary paperwork and then that’s it. Well, I think…I’m applying to their Musical Theatre program but on the school’s official site, it says that its audition form won’t be available until after August 15th. Well, it’s now the 18th, so I was getting a little worried about that. Am I doing something wrong? Also, do you have to live in OC to audition live or can you fly out to OC to audition?

The audition form still doesn’t appear to be posted. We’ll just keep checking in every day until it finally shows up :)

The on campus audition dates are posted:
Audition Dates - 2009-2010
November 20, 21, 2009
February 5, 6, 2010
March 26, 27, 2010

When you are ready you can apply for admission to the university through the online application if you prefer. My D said it is pretty straightforward.

MTHopeful123,
The on-campus auditions are for everyone. There will be auditioners there from all over. We were within driving distance, but many prospective students flew in. Good Luck!

Thank you both for your help! I have another quick question: I’ve been homeschooled since I was in the fifth grade, so naturally I didn’t have a High School Counsellor, but part of the admission process is the High School Counsellor Reccomendation Form. Does anybody know if there is a way around that?

As a homeschool student, you need to contact the admissions office of each school to find out if they have any specialized requirements or documentation that you must submit. I don’t think most posters here can answer your question unless they were homeschooled AND applied to OCU. I have advised a homeschool student (but not for OCU) and read very carefully under any homeschool admissions information a specific college had or the student had to ask the college to be sure.

MTHopeful, I would just call the school admissions they are very kind and helpful, I am sure they have an exception for that.
Good Luck!

The audition form is posted on the OCU website. Only takes a minute to fill it out.

Hi. I am trying to find out how many were admitted into OCUs MT program last year. Or specifically how many are enrolled. I heard it was a high number, but can’t find anything specific on the website. Thanks!

[Oklahoma City University : Bass School of Music](http://www.okcu.edu/music/newsdetail.aspx?article=3101)

This article says there are 380 music majors enrolled in the Wanda L. Bass School of Music, but this includes instrumentalists, VP and MT majors (and other music majors). I have not heard a breakdown of the vocal music majors.

When we were up last weekend we had the chance to visit with one of the professors during dinner. He indicated that last year the admissions template was basically blown out…way more applicants accepted admission to OCU MT/VP than they expected. Not sure how that will impact things going forward and we really didn’t talk specifics in that regard. But he did agree that this probably did indicate, among other things, that OCU and the MT/VP reputation is becoming increasingly well-known and respected and probably had something to do with it.

The other thing he mentioned is that there are always a number of people that audition for the MT/VP program and don’t get in but accept a Theater slot and try again the next year (and some do get in the next time) OR may accept the Theater side because of a better financial offer. Those are still able to audition for the shows and operas and have reasonably good success getting cast.

Dr. H is presently acting director of the Theater School in addition to his duties in the Music School. They have just hired an assistant professor who will share some of his production duties. She is supposed to have very strong credentials.

The real bottleneck at present, at least from our experience, is getting the dance classes scheduled. But this does seem to be something they are aware of and monitor and it seems that as you get further along they try to accomodate and get you in the classes you need. But there again, the dance school is excellent.

Just wondering if anyone auditioned via dvd and was accepted? My d scheduled most of her auditions at Unifieds and it is looking virtually impossible to fly to OCU for any of their audition dates. The website said they will accept taped auditions, but we’re trying to find out if anyone has had success not doing a live audition. Thanks!
