Applying to only one college

My D has applied to her top choice college and it is a safety for her - she will most likely be admitted. Is it worth it applying to other colleges? She is not motivated to do so.
She may be getting Merit Aid (NHRP, NMS semi-finalist, 35ACT) - can we negotiate it if she has a better offer?

I guess as long as she’ll hear early enough about her admission to apply elsewhere in case it’s necessary, it’s OK.

Definitely make sure you hear back early enough to apply to other colleges, I have a friend that had decent grades and sat score… he was so confident that he was going to get into Virginia Tech as his safety and UVA as his reach, he got rejected from both. Now has to go to community college because his parents won’t pay for out-of-state and no colleges in Virginia have rolling admissions, so yeah that kinda sucks.

I would look at a couple of other schools as well. And some schools WILL match other aid offers. That might be worth it all by itself.

My DS2 also only wanted to apply to one school, one that we were certain he’d be accepted to. He didn’t want to apply to other schools, either.

However, I wanted him to apply to a few more schools, so he agreed to let me do a few of the EZ online apps to some other schools that had provided waivers for free apps (Tulane, SLU, etc). This literally only took a couple of hours to do.

Re: Negotiating packages… Your D has great stats, so if her 1st choice gives a great NMF package already, I doubt you’ll be able to negotiate more. However, if her 1st choice won’t automatically give her lots of money (based on NMF and/or stats), she needs to apply to a couple of schools that will automatically give her a great merit for her stats.
