Hey guys, I know I made a similar post about this before. But this is a bit different.

I am interested in doing MD/PhD at OHSU. However, I really don't want to move out of Oregon, and I want to stay in Oregon. OHSU is the only med school here, so what happens if I apply only to OHSU when I am applying? I am planning to apply after my senior year so that I have a gap year in between, and so that my senior grades count.

But seriously, what do you think? Would OHSU look favorably at this, since I am an Oregon resident and want to stay in Oregon? Would they prefer someone that would like to stay in the state?

I really don't see myself going further than a few hours away from Oregon. Maybe UW is another option because it's not too far, but I really want to go to OHSU Md/phd program

Well, if you really want to get these degrees, you are taking a pretty big risk by only applying to OHSU. There is no guarantee that you will get it and it would be wise to have one or two backup schools.

Only you would know how competitive you are for the MD/PhD program. But I think it’s safe to say that applying to only one medical school may end up being a problem, unless your are pretty confident about your GPA and MCAT scores.

I know of an applicant three years ago who graduated from Princeton with good grades and MCAT and could not get into New Jersey’s less prestigious medical school.

My wife’s co-worker’s daughter was top of her class at a NJ state school and only applied to that same medical school since she was advised by the premed committee she was certain to get in. She also was a homebody who wanted to stay instate. She did not get in and a year later finally got into a Carribean medical school. She also had a very rough time finding a residency but she did met her fianc

CC advises people to have reaches, matches and safeties for undergrad. MD/PhD programs are some of the hardest to get into the nation and you want to know what we think?

IMHO, It is a very silly question.

It is not like these programs CARE whether you are applying anywhere else. They do care whether you are qualified.

Let us reverse the question and ask - what if they don’t call you for an interview, what do you want to do then?
