Applying to other Ivies after rejection?

My friend and I both applied SCEA, and I got accepted while she was rejected. I seriously feel really bad for her, and I still hope she can end up somewhere good. She was thinking about applying to other schools like Harvard and Columbia (with other safeties, of course), but now she's too dejected because she wasn't even deferred from Yale (only <1/4 of all applicants were rejected). So would she have a chance at other tops Ivies? Her stats are awesome, probably even better than mine, but the decisions kinda made her lose hope. Should she still apply?

Absolutely, there is always a chance. If she doesn’t apply now, she’ll always live with the uncertainty that maybe, just maybe she could have gone to another stellar school. I know quite a few people rejected from Yale but got into Harvard.

Go for it! I have a friend that was rejected SCEA at Yale and was later accepted at Princeton. He had perfect scores and incredible ECs, so there is no telling what will really happen. Tell her to nail it.

That’s what I’ve been telling her too. I think what really got her was that she wasn’t even deferred along with the majority.

As long as the rest of her list has reasonable matches and safeties, there’s no problem with applying to other highly selective schools. Since her stats were high, I’d advise she take a second look at her essays, and get some new reviewers if necessary, they might be the reason for the denial rather than deferral.

She should definitely apply to other ivies. The Ivies admissions process is unpredictable. A person can be rejected from Yale, accepted at Harvard and deferred at Brown. Plus, you never know unless you try. ^_^

It’s definitely worth it!

Yes, definitely your friend should apply to other Ivies. I know someone who was deferred then rejected from Yale RD and admitted to Harvard and Princeton.

Just make sure that there are safeties as well…
