"Applying to Other Undergraduate Schools of Columbia University"

<p>Applying</a> to GS | General Studies</p>

<p>"Applicants may not simultaneously apply to the School of General Studies and to any other undergraduate division of Columbia University – Columbia College (CC), or The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) – nor are candidates eligible to apply to the School of General Studies if in the last three years they applied to any of these divisions and were not accepted."</p>

<p>This part really baffled me. Seems a bit harsh with the 3 years. Why is it that way?</p>

<p>And: Does the "any of these divisions"-part refer to GS itself as well?
How often can I apply to GS if I apply to GS alone?</p>

<p>Because GS very much doesn’t want to wade through hundreds of applicants from people who were rejected from CC, and are reapplying because they heard it was easier to get into GS.</p>

<p>And : Dose the “any of these divisions” - part refer to GS itself as well? ====> I doubt it. Because i saw the post and according to that post there are many people who got rejected and reapplied within 3 years. How about asking this question to the admission officer?</p>

<p>Does anybody know if the “undergraduate institutions” referenced includes Barnard College? I applied to BC my senior year and now want to apply to GS.</p>

<p>This stipulation only applies to GS, Columbia College, and the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science. If you would like more clarification, call the GS Admissions Office at 212-854-2772.</p>

Agree with campaigner. They do not want to reread your application again if you were rejected. They are not trying to cook up stats the way other schools do and only want to look at viable applicants. You can only apply to one division per year (this does not include Barnard.) but remember CC and SEAS are for those students under 21 only and who have never had any gap in their education, and GS for students over 21 or who have had a gap in their education.

Hi, my name is Orit, and I am a GS Tour Guide. Applicants who were not accepted to CC or SEAS must wait three years before applying to GS. Additionally, there is no age criteria for GS admissions. Since GS is geared toward the non-traditional student, one’s eligibility is based on either a break of at least a year from academia, or if that person is interested in attending school part time.

Does anyone know if they’ve ever made exceptions, for example for someone who waited two years and not three? I understand why they’d want people to wait more than a year but I don’t think there’s necessarily a big difference between two years and three years…
