Applying to Oxford

<p>Hey just had some questions
Do my UCAS and Oxford apps have to both be sent in by the 1st of Oct?
Can the rec on both apps be the same, verbatum?
When would I find out if I got in?
How hard is the HAT?
Should I aplly at a easier to get in major (like 50 % acceptance rate) and then change my major when I get there?
Is the only interview in the Us in NY, or are ther any west coast interview oppurtunities</p>

I think so, but I'm not certain.

yes, unless it says otherwise (I'm a third year graduate student so it may have changed since I applied.)

Just before Christmas 2005

No idea because I'm a Biologist. HAT has only been around a couple of years I think.

No, no, a thousand times no. You just wouldn't get in. They don't care very much about ECs or anything outside the subject. You have to show a passion for the subject you are applying for. The number of people who change course is very, very small (like 1-2%). It's usually between closely related courses when it does happen, and from the more competitive to the less competitive course eg Medicine to Biology. The mostly likely outcome is you would not be aloowed to change, and would be miserable and possibly failing for the rest of your degree.

When I applied you could go to Vancouver, Canada for an interview. In some cases phone interviews are allowed.</p>

<p>There's a lot of information on the HAT, including a sample paper, sample answers, and tutors' comments on the answers on the Oxford admissions pages:

<p>Isn't the deadline 15 october?</p>

<p>The deadline is 15 October for UK applicants but 1 October for internationals.</p>

<p>how about EU applicants ???</p>

<p>15 October:

<p>what is UCAS?</p>

<p>Universities & Colleges Application Service</p>

<p>"UCAS is the central organisation that processes applications for full-time undergraduate courses at UK universities and colleges"</p>

<p>apparently things work differently in the UK. there's a limit to the number of colleges you apply to i think. about 6, if i'm right. and UCAS helps throughout, trying to make sure you've somewhere to go to in the end.</p>
