I'm interested in business but understand the practicality of having a technical degree like engineering but not completely sold on specific engineering major.. I've heard you can apply to both pre admit Ross and school of engineering at the same time.

There are 2 essays everyone has to do, one is specific to what you're applying to.

How does it work? You write an essay for both?

It is all through the common application. One essay is about your community. The other essay is about the specific undergraduate college you’re applying to, including preferred admit programs, so in your case, engineering and/or ross. I would recommend writing your essay including aspects of both Ross and CoE in your essay. Maybe talk about the idea of pursuing both an engineering and Ross degree if this interests you.

I applied for LSA and PA (accepted). I was absolutely set on Ross so I made my entire essay about Ross. It’s really up to you on how you want to write it.

Ohh ok thank you for the response. So everyone applying PA applies for another school as well (or LSA is default)?
And I was wondering what happens if you don’t get accepted PA? If you don’t get PA then are you put in the other school you apply to?

Yes, everyone applies to another school as well; LSA is the most common but a decent amount apply engineering too. If you don’t get accepted PA, you spend your first year in your college then apply in march for regular decision.

I was accepted PA and I am an engineer. I’m pretty sure that is the reason I got the PA because my grades and extracurricular a were good but nothing special.

Alright, and I’m actually thinking of applying to LSA as well as PA to ross instead of engineering.

So you’re saying PA isn’t that hard to get or what? And I’m kind of in the same boat, I have a great gpa and slight upward grade trend but no hook/“business” ECs or whatever just sports, music (instrument), some volunteering, honors societies, help founding a club, and no huge awards which it seems like everyone has.

No, PA is very difficult to get. The average ACT is 33.5 and UW GPA is 3.92ish. I think the acceptance rate is about 20% (maybe lower) - of those who apply PA and are already accepted to Mich. I’m not sure what user19 means when he credits engineering to his PA acceptance. I don’t think there is any correlation. Many students in Engineering apply for PA, but there are more from LSA.

You sound like a solid candidate for PA but still a reach. Many of the PA students whom I’ve talked to have business ECs (main reason why I think I was admitted).

I was also considering applying to engineering and PA, but later decided on LSA and PA. Let me know if you have any more questions.
