Applying to Pratt... any shot?

GPA: 3.81 UW, 4.5 W(not reported though)
Rank: 45/350 --> this is unweighted, no weight AT ALL to APs and Honors classes, I've took the hardest course load and all that. My school is competitive, 15-25 students to Ivies/T-20 schools each year out of ~350 students
SAT: 2290 (780M, 760CR, 750W)
SAT II: 800 Math 2 and Physics

Alright, with ECs I won't go into much detail, but basically I'm interest in robotics. I've spent the last two years at a university lab doing research related to robotics/CS(bulk of my time outside of school, lol). I've been published, how much does that help? Some ECs as well, such sports, clubs, but robotics has been the main focus. Will class rank kill my app?

Any shot? Sure, but I’m not sure how good a shot.

You almost answer your own question in your post. You are ranked #45 in a class that typically sends 15-25 to highly selective schools like Duke. Do you have some qualities that place you among the top 15-25 students in your class (enough to leapfrog over 20-30 classmates)? Rank is only one factor - your test scores might be higher, or your course load more rigorous.

@rmldad: Well, I can definitely say that of the 15-25 kids that get into top schools, I’ve took as rigorous of a course load as them. Last kid I know who got into Duke from my school had a 3.9, 2210 SAT, was in the top 10%, but applied to to trinity (interested in public policy). I only know of two other people in my grade who’ve worked in labs, one has also been published (also Yale legacy…). I’d say my ECs are unique compared to the majority of the 15-25 who get in each year. Hopefully recs and essays can counterbalance a low rank…

anyone else?
