When filling out my resume for applications, I realized that it’s almost completely void of science ECs. I also don’t have any research experience.
I guess I’m a bit worried in general because my school lacks a lot of diverse science-related activities, and I don’t want it to look like I’m not as involved in/passionate with science.
My school does Science Bowl, chemistry olympiad (sophomores/juniors/seniors, so I’m doing it this year, but haven’t even taken the test yet), biology olympiad (new this year, only open to juniors and seniors), and this science competition thing the teachers invite you to join the school’s team for (sophomores/juniors/seniors, I’m in this). I was asked to join Science Bowl last year, but I ended up saying no after going to a couple of meetings because the Science Bowl team was mainly just forcing rote memorization of facts instead of learning and loving science. Silly me, because they ended up doing quite well at state… There’s no science olympiad. I didn’t really want to join science clubs I wasn’t as interested in, like Rocketry Club or robotics, just for the sake of padding my resume. Biology Club, Physics Club, Chemistry Club is dead.
Anyways, I’ve been trying to communicate my love for science through my essays, but I feel like that’s not enough. Am I just at a major disadvantage compared to other applicants, going in? What types of science ECs are you involved in?
