For regular decision, I will be applying close to around ten schools, if not a few more. Recommendation therefore, becomes a huge problem.

The first problem is whether the teachers have to fill out individual recs for each of the colleges that use their own forms. I was hoping that all colleges would accept the common app. recommendation forms...

Another is if the teachers are allowed to photocopy "background information" page and the "Ratings" page. I wouldn't want them to write them out ten different times, unless they type and save those forms. Will it be okay if they simply mailed out the actual letter of recommendation?

I really want to keep the teacher's work to a minimum and be less of a burden to them. I can't imagine them having to write out ten different rec forms, let alone folding them into ten different envelopes and posting them.

Ask them to type the real letter on school letterhead and take 10 printouts and request them to sign each one.. Do one common app.. and p[hotocopy that and have them, sign each copy too ...

If there are a few schools that require different.. they will fill ott he foirms..

Just photocopy the form... but make sure the school stamps it(if possible) and the teacher should hand sign each one

Don't worry as long as you give your teacher enough time to do all of the work it really shouldn't be too much of a problem. Plus, if the teacher has any experience with recommendation forms they'll know to write one general essay, say * See Attached * after any prompts, do the personal info section and the checkboxes, and that's about it. Though, I hope I don't sound like I'm oversimplying it since your teacher is still doing plenty. Just remember to thank them, and good luck.

My son just listed the schools that would receive his teachers' recs. I think that the teachers just write one rec, the secretary in the office copies it, and the teachers sign the copies. The school sends that rec in a packet that contains the gc's rec, transcript, and any other necessary paperwork.

Some schools requested one rec, and some schools requested 2 recs. My son listed this when he asked for his transcript to be sent to a school.

Would the applicants be subject to penalty if they send in a common app recommendation when the college has a application of their own? For instance, for Princeton, I'm using their own app. when they do also accept common apps. Will it be okay if I send them the common app. recs even if I use a different application for the rest of the package.

I really wish how the former seniors tackled with this.
TonyT, really helpful suggestion about adding "See Attached" for the different prompts. One way to lessen the burden.
