Applying to the undergraduate program at NYU do different majors have different acceptance rates?

Sorry for not knowing anything.
When I apply will I get accepted and then pick my major? Does a theater major have the same chance as one wishing to go to Stern?

Thanks

NYU has different schools with different levels of selectivity. You can only apply to one school. Generally, each school has a specific focus (Tisch for performing arts, film, photo, Stern for business, CAS for general arts and sciences, Gallatin for whatever you can dream up). So, you have to have at least a broad idea of what you want so you know what school to apply to (there are 11 to choose from).

Off the top of my head, Stern and Tisch are most selective (though in Tisch it does vary somewhat by the specific track you want to pursue), followed closely by CAS, and then LSP, Gallatin, Steinhardt, Nursing, etc etc etc

Within each school though, it generally doesn’t matter what major you put, so if you apply to CAS, you can put art history, econ, or chemistry, and your chances will be the same.
