Applying to Transfer for Spring Semester 2012

I am applying to transfer next semester and I was wondering how many in-state versus out of state students are accepted. I am concerned because I am coming from a small 4-year university in Virginia. What is the average ratio between in-state transfers and out of state transfers? Also, when being compared to a transfer student from a bigger university with a similar GPA and credentials, does he or she stand out more than I do?

Thank you.

Where you attend college (whether in VA or not in VA) doesn’t play a role. What matters is whether you’re a VA resident or not. Because W&M is a public university, we do give deference to our VA residents in our admission processes. Generally, the bulk of our transfer applicants are from VA residents.

We don’t really compare four year colleges to each other. Certainly we take into account if a student attends a top-rated four-year college/university but for the most part we’re looking at the courses you took and how you performed, not the place you took them. We review all students from two-year school together (and don’t compare them to those attending four-year colleges) and the same goes with students from four-year schools.
