So I have exactly 2.888 gpa right now..as they will see....I'm applying Davis and Berkeley for next fall. (However, i will also apply ucr and ucsc.. not that i really want to go there. And im applying tag for SB . )
I'm a transfer student from a junior college. I know my gpa currently is really low, and generally is impossible to get in. But I'm getting my hopes up because I'm pretty sure I'll get a 3.2 ~3.3 gpa when I finish this fall semester .. do you guys think that i have a chance to get accepted when i submit my updated FALL GPA?

What can anyone tell you that you don’t already suspect, yourself? Best of luck to you this semester and your applications.

They don’t only look at your gpa numbers. Do you have any ECs at all??

Min GPA is 3.0 but the 25/75th precentiles are 3.64 to 4.00 GPA.

@T26E4 you are right. I just wanted to hear anybody’s opinion on my situation… since i really want to go to divas or Berkeley, and I am going to apply for both… my goal for this FALL semester is to raise my GPA from 2.88 right now to at least 3.20 or more.

@jay9649 And yes. I have some ECs, and I work a part-time job, 9 hours per week.
But if i don’t have any honors or awards, (only algebra1 from high school…long time ago…) does that hurt me very bad as well ? :/

What’s your major? That is important as well. Also is the 3.2 your UC GPA or overall GPA? It’s really hard to guess at peoples chances because everyone is so unique. There are 4.0s that get rejected and 3.5s that get accepted from Berkeley. 3.8s rejected from Davis and 3.2s accepted. Its a case by case basis. If you have an upward trend that might help you. Best of luck!

@emprex my major will be communication at Davis, and Media Studies at Berkeley. Are these major very hard to get in?

Berkeley is probably a severe long shot unless you have an outstanding essay as well as some extraordinary talents.

Davis might not be out of the picture though if you do get your GPA to 3.3. You might not even need a 3.3 actually.

Apply everywhere. Per T2’s link, you can pretty much forget Berkeley unless you can count “spending two years in the Democratic Republic of Congo helping establish drinking wells for outlying villages and aiding in protection of mountain gorilla habitat preservation” as one of your ECs. And even then you’d better be an anthropology major.

But yeah, apply everywhere. Think about CSU’s, too.

I’m not sure if it’s impacted but regardless just get straight A’s and write a killer essay. I agree that Berkeley will be a long shot but I think Davis is very realistic. Davis has been more lenient towards transfers the past few years as they are trying to expand their undergrad pool.

Unless you’re Obama’s long-lost ■■■■■■■ child, you aren’t getting in to Berkeley, but Davis is possible if you get your GPA up.
