Applying to transfer while studying abroad

I'm considering studying abroad at my current school. I'd go to Europe on a program sponsored by my current institution, so all of the credits would be accepted by my school now. Question is, how do prospective universities view studying abroad? Is it odd to be applying from a city in Central Europe and not your current university? I'd like to do it now just in case I have to do two years in residence at a new school, but I'm not sure how schools will view it.

Thanks!

I don’t exactly know how they view it, but I am in Greece studying abroad right now, and am also applying to transfer next semester. I think that they will view studying abroad positively (as would a potential employer). I will try to let you know in a month whether or not I got in.

I think most schools would see it as a good thing. It does not hurt to see how the schools you are applying to will handle those credits.

I would recommend sending transcripts, standardized test scores, and letters of recommendation before you leave. I had complications sending one of these things, and it was bad enough dealing with it from the United States.

Thats my question too. Although im not abroad yet…if i get rejected to the schools im applying to for fall 2010, then i plan to just go abroad that semester. then apply again for fall 2011. but yeah…idk if this would be a good or bad thing. Hopefully the colleges don’t see it as us just trying to “get out” rather than a positive thing…

i have a sort of similar thing. i applied to be a visiting student at nyu this spring, and then i’m applying for fall 10 transfer. the visiting student thing is supposed to be like a domestic study abroad - like study in a new place or whatever. but i live close to nyu, so it’s not really like that for me… but anyway, i am pretty much doing it just to get out of here, though i also have good academic reasons (classes not offered at current school) to want to spend a semester away. how do you think that will be viewed?

Is this a thing to ask the admissions office or the registrar of the prospective schools? So confused. Thanks, guys.
