Applying to two depts at same school

<p>I was wondering if people think that applying to two depts at the same school (for PhD programs) is a good idea. On the one hand, they may interpret it to mean that you think the school is the best place to study in a positive sense. On the other hand, they may think you just want to go to that school no matter what, and that it shows a lack of focus to apply to multiple programs, especially if there are substantive differences between the programs. </p>

<p>It depends on how closely related the programs are, some programs have different names but my overlap in research interests. Which programs?</p>
