<p>suxess: I’m no expert but I’ll try my best.</p>
<p>1) Religion has no impact on your admissions decision. UA is a public institution and cannot discriminate based on race, religion etc. There is a fairly substantial Catholic population in Tuscaloosa. I’m sure other parents will join in to tell you about the local Catholic parish.</p>
<p>2) A lot of incoming students are undecided. Again, I don’t think it would impact your admissions decision at all. </p>
<p>3) Once you submit your application, get your test scores sent and have your HS send your transcript, you should hear back within a few weeks. The school can’t make a decision until they have all three pieces in hand, so if you submit your application, but your scores & transcript don’t get there until the end of September, that will hold things up.</p>
<p>UA makes its decisions based on GPA and test scores. And the earlier you apply the more lenient they generally are with borderline stats. Based on your stats, are you thinking you are qualified for any of the automatic scholarships?

<p>Well that’s all good news! I’ll send them my transcripts and SAT scores on monday. Is UA even looking at applications yet? or will I have to wait longer untill they start reviewing them?</p>

<p>My intent is not to bust your chops, but to welcome you to the wonderful Bama family on this forum, and to offer a little help. I took a peek at some of your other posts on CC and note that you have a 3.2 GPA and a 1780 SAT score (oops, looks like your post beat mine to the punch!). That’s good news regarding your admission to UA. Here’s a direct quote from UA Undergraduate Admissions:</p>
<p>“ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR FRESHMAN STUDENTS
The University of Alabama employs a competitive admission process that includes reviewing and evaluating each application on an individual basis for an applicant’s abilities as a student and a scholar. Decisions about the potential for your academic success at UA are based on your performance on the ACT and/or SAT, your high-school grade point average, and your high-school course schedule. (For example: a student with a 21 ACT or 1000 SAT along with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 should be successful at the University.)”</p>

<p>Last, I noted that you’ve posted an interest in majoring “in something along the lines of Fashion merchandising/management and minor in journalism/writing.” UA has a wonderful business school and journalism program. Declaring a major doesn’t lock you into it, but perhaps for starters you might consider putting down business as an intended major on your application.</p>

<p>Bama has a Catholic parish across the street…St Francis of Assisi. Very nice pastor there - I knew him when he was in the Huntsville area. </p>
<p>Being Catholic won’t hurt you at Bama. Bama has about a 10% Catholic population which is high for the south. </p>
<p>The only negative about applying as an undecided major is that you lose the opportunity for being considered for dept scholarships. For instance, if you were an education major, the education dept might give you a scholarship. </p>
<p>So, you might think about what you might want to major in. Even if you don’t know right now, I think if you indicate a major by Dec 1st on MyBama, and also indicate one on your scholarship app, you’ll be considered.</p>
<p>Yes, Bama is accepting apps now and some students have already been accepted!</p>
<p>After you apply, you’lll get a followup email within a couple of days. That will contain the info you need to set up mybama and to apply for scholarships.</p>
<p>If you apply today AND your school sends transcripts AND you get your SAT sent, you would should have an acceptance within a few weeks. :)</p>
<p>I agree with the recommendation above…majoring in some kind of business (maybe marketing) might be right for you.</p>

<p>Hi, I had a question about admissions as well. Do you have to self report your GPA , etc. ? And if you do/ decide to should I report my weighted of of 5.0 gpa or out of 4.0. I have a 4.3 ish weighted and a 3.7 unweighted. Thanks! Also, where can I find the information about applying to the Honors college, because that is a separate application in addition correct ?</p>
<p>^^^Hey, alliesaywhat, as I indicated in my response to a similar question of yours on another thread, you don’t need to worry about self-reporting your GPA on your UA undergraduate application. With respect to the Honors College, once you’ve been admitted to UA you will be able to apply to the Honors College online from your myBama account. It’s a pretty simple application and there you will be asked to self-report your GPA on a 4.0 scale. If your SAT/ACT scores (whichever are relevant) are commensurate with your unweighted GPA of 3.7, you’ve got nothing to worry about.</p>
<p>Don’t worry about what you self-report…your transcript is what matters.</p>
<p>If I remember correctly, you self-report on Honors College, but it doesn’t let you put more than a 4.0 (I think). Since Bama uses weighted GPAs, and the highest you can put is 4.0, then put 4.0 or 3.7…whichever one you want.</p>

I’m extremely interested in going to Alabama and I really hope i get in! I’m always all over the place with what colleges I want to go to buy I think I’ve finally settled on Alabama. I’ve submitted my application and they have received my transcripts, but my SAT scores were sent last friday so they have yet to receive them. </p>

<p>Given that you have applied early, you should hear within the next few weeks. My son applied Oct. 20, 2008. He knew by the following Monday (or eight days later). As for departmental scholarships, they come out in the spring.</p>

<p>I think colleges ask to let various clubs and college chaplains know for contact purposes.</p>
<p>We received letters from the pastor of the Catholic church after our sons applied.</p>
