I'm currently attending FSU and am wanting to transfer to the Bio-Engineering program at UCB. My school doesn't have Bio-E and I'm currently doing Chemical Engineering since they are somewhat similar for the first 2 years.

-I currently have 45 credits, and after spring I'll have 70+ (applying for fall '11)
-Current have a 3.52 which will most likely go up after this semester (this is cumm. not sure what it is for major, lower though)
-In HS my GPA was above 4.0 (I think 4.3 or 4.5)
-I won a college summer engineering program scholarship during junior year of HS
-Likely to be doing an internship (at a Lab in Berkley actually)
-SATs were not that great: 1170, ACT: 26 (was hoping these don't matter as much anymore)

Is there anything I should pay extra attention to on the application? Such as essays? I know some schools are more interested in GPA and barely use the essay for transfers.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Haha. Yeah… That doesn’t look to good, that I cant spell Berkeley correctly.
Does transferring because of my major make a big difference? I’ve heard that Bio-Engineering is one of the hardest programs to get accepted in, since it isn’t a program lots of universities offer.

Your high school GPA and SAT scores have no bearing on whether you get accepted as a transfer from another college to a UC. What does matter a lot is where you are transferring from which I assume is Florida State University in your case. The UCs are required to give California Community College (CCC) transfers highest priority, after that some preference is given to transfer applicants from other UC campuses. Transfer applicants from non-UC four year colleges are given low priority and few are accepted. Transfer applicants from out of state four colleges and universities have an acceptance rate of only about 10%. The only transfer applicants given lower priority are California State University (CSU) applicants who have a 6% acceptance rate at the UCs.
