Applying to UC Schools- Need Advice

Hello everyone, I’m a current high school senior looking to apply to UC schools as a history major. Yes, I know this may sound strange but I do have a passion for history- its my favorite subject at school since elementary! Currently I have a 3.65 unweighted GPA and a 2100 score on the old SAT. I’m wondering about what my chances are in getting admitted to higher tier UCs like UC San Diego and UCLA. Also, I’m curious as to how competitive history programs are at UC schools. Thank you very much

What is your UC GPA, capped wighted and fully weighted.

UC’s are very GPA focused and History is not considered a very competitive major but the UC’s as a whole are competitive.

Repost with your UC GPA. Test scores are within range. Good essays and EC’s could help your chances.

Some admit rates based on UC GPA.

Freshman admits for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79
UCB: 2%
UCLA: 3%
UCSD: 6%
UCD: 11%
UCSB: 13%
UCI: 16%
UCSC: 47%
UCR: 64%
UCM: 80%

Freshman admits with UC GPA if 3.80-4.19
UCB: 12%
UCLA: 14%
UCSD: 39%
UCSB: 49%
UCD: 52%
UCI: 57%
UCSC: 83%
UCR: 90%
UCM: 92%

They are still tough, especially the top UCs. Remember you are competing with everyone applying to the Arts and Sciences (or whatever it is called) school of that college, not just those applying to history, even if you check that major. A student I know applied to history at ucla and ucb with a 4.5 and 32 ACT, tons of ECs and didn’t get in either. Did get into UCSD, not sure what major there, didn’t go to a UC. No one should count on the two big UCs, hope, but choose others you would like as well.

It would be good to know your weighted GPA, weighted as in the way CA high schools typically do it, +1 for honors, AP, IB, or college classes. From our high school the average admitted to UCB or UCLA is over a 4.5 GPA.

Hello, sorry for the late response! My UC GPA would be a 4.3 out of 5, since some of the courses that I took in high school is not counted in their grading system.

So Fully weighted is 4.3? What is your UC capped weighted? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Since the data I posted is based on weighted capped.
