I am very passionate about all of my EC's, and I don't plan on doing pointless organizations or clubs in hopes of impressing colleges. I simply do what I am passionate about.

I will start my essays this summer, and plan to write about my experiences with running.

I have 2 reccomendations set up, and I will also be taking SAT II's next month.

I plan to do Cross Country and Track in college and have contacted the Maryland coaching staff already. I am hoping to get a partial scholarship, if not I will be recruited and just join the team.

Thanks for advice on applying to a top choice school

nothing b/c you're hispanic. my hispanic friend got in with a 2.8 and my asian friend didn't get in (but he got in spring) with a 3.8 and their EC and SAT weren't that different.

OH... also, my SAT scores came in yesterday. I met my goal with a 1930, but my x/1600 score isn't great. Does this effect my status as an applicant over my ACT score?

wow dude u shouldn't worry. im latino too and u have waaay better stats than me and they let me in, i had a 2.98 and 1790(600-math 650-reading) when i applied

I just took my SAT IIs in Biology yesterday. Assuming I get in the 600-700 range, will Maryland consider the test score/will this help out my chances?

Also, I'm thinking of doing an open house visit to check out the campus/the presentation of the college. If they know that I checked out the school will it make any difference (or will it make a big difference to ME to check out the college)?

attending a school without ever having visited it first is a pretty bad idea. so yeah, it should probably make a difference to you to go check it out. does it make a difference with admissions? i don't think it does.

your in and you could get into scholars maybe honors. i definetely showed interest (i visited like three times through all the programs they invited me for) and it wasn't even my top choice but they knew i had decent grades. well needless to say some people recognized me by the last program and i got a full ride so i think your on the right track especially if you want to go to UMD really badly. btw i'm also hispanic if that matters.

oh and my SATs where around your area. i did have a higher GPA but my SATs were below the avg for honors and i got into gemstone. just focus on your senior year and stop stressing!!! i mean that in a kind way =]
