"Admission to one of five U-M professional or graduate schools or colleges is guaranteed to a limited number of highly-qualified freshman students who maintain a specified level of academic achievement during their undergraduate years. Achievement expectations during the pre-professional years are explained in the invitation to the program. All Preferred Admits are junior level entry programs, with the exception of the Ross School of Business and Dental Hygiene Program, which are sophomore level entry programs.

Applying to a preferred admissions program is an optional question on the U-M Questions portion of the Common Application.

In order to be considered for admission into any of the Preferred Admission Programs, an applicant must first be offered admission into a freshman level program, either the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, the College of Engineering, the School of Kinesiology, the School of Art & Design, or the School of Music, Theatre & Dance. If a student is not admitted to a Preferred Admission Program, the previous offer of admission to the freshman level program will still stand."
