Hi, im a junior in California. I'd love to be able to go to UTexas at Austin. I currently have a 3.71 weighted gpa overall (4.2 gpa my first semester). If you count my 2nd semester, which im probably going to get a 4.0-4.2) then i would have 3.75-3.8 overall weighted gpa. I've been in football team every yera, and i do many fund raising activities with my team. I want to get into the Business major. I'm going to take the SAT this weekend and i got a 198 for the PSAT. I wonder if this is good enough to be accepted, if not what should i do to improve my chances (higher test scores?). I'm also going to try to get a job this summer. PLz help me, i really want to go to texas!

improve your chances? move to podunk, texas and be top 10%

definately raise the test scores...
shoot for at LEAST above a 2000

i dont think 2000 on SAT will be enough for business school. the bad news is....this year it was hard for OOS to get in because of top 10% law....but it just gets worse every year....which means less and less OOS (and if not less...then much higher expectations than texas students)

the business school is tough. i know you usually have to be top 3% to be in the regular business program.

i'm doing business next year, and i'm waiting to hear from BHP like this week.. EEK..

here is the 2005 class profile for UT regular business students:

best of luck!

Rank is still VERY important for OOS applicants

as kbfunkymonkey said, 2000 probably isnt enough. UTs admissions for OOS (or anyone for that matter really) seems to be based more on your numbers than anything else. i think a 2100+ and a ranking of 5% or better would be "safer".

Take it from me, I got a 198 on the PSAT and a 2100 on the SAT, took all the APs my school offered, got a 5 on the AP English test, have a GPA above 94, and got CAPed for being in the 2nd decile of the class rank at a cut throat private school in Dallas.

also....Vyse was instate....and being OOS makes it much harder because unlike other universities in different states....UT likes to have a very large true Texan student population

My school doesn't have class rank, but it is ranked 5th in the state. Does that count for something?

honestly, no.

Yeah, 5th in state doesn't matter. I have some friends who go to Highland Park High School, which is 12th in the COUNTRY who got CAPed, and all of them would easily have easily been top 10% at a lesser public high school.

What does getting CAPed mean?

coordinated admissions program, spend one year at a satellite school then transfer in. it's only offered for in state kids.
