How much more difficult is it to get admitted to University of Texas at Austin as an out of state student?

How does geography (I reside in PA) and ability to pay full tuition (I would not apply for financial aid) effect admission?

I know for state schools such as UVA and UNC it takes near perfect grades to get admitted as an out of state student -- so how would you compare UT?

I don’t know that those statistics are available specifically for OOS.

But as you probably know, Texas has the 10% rule, (recently amended) that obligates UT-Austin to accept any Texas public high school student graduating in the top 10% of his/her class. That rule has been amended so that UT-Austin can limit the number of actually offered admission to 75% of the class. The remaining 25% of spots are allotted at the discretion of Admissions to private school graduates, out-of-staters and other top 10% Texans.

So, last year UT-Austin admitted roughly 13,000 of its 29,000 applicants. 25% of 13,000 leaves you fighting for 1 of 3245 spots. I would suspect that you need to be in the 75th%-tile of applicant stats to be considered a viable candidate for one of those spots, (That translates to, (obviously) at least 75% of students admitted will be in the top 10%, with a 30 ACT or 2000 SAT and comparable GPA).
