Applying to Wharton with a business background

Hope you can write an awesome essay.

The people who I had read them thought they were good!

Just wondering why you didn’t retake SATII Math2?
Math scores are important for Wharton.

Why are his ECs considered bad? @Gbaby91, are u heavily involved in Speech and Debate? What event do you do? It can look pretty awesome when you rack up trophies and victories at top tournament especially if you do Policy (Cross-X) debate.

I don’t see whats wrong, he got into competitive programs, played sports (were you varsity?) and has focus on poli-sci/public speaking and teamwork which I hear are important to Wharton.

Looks pretty good overall. You got a shot.

I did extemporaneous speaking. I never retook math II because I didn’t really think I had to for Georgetown which is my first choice. And yes I am heavily involved in speech and debate 3 (likely going to be 4) time state qualifier and letter winner and officer the last two years. And all sports were varsity, even though I wasn’t great at football

Then, imo, the only thing keeping u down are your scores. But if your website is legit along with the nonprofit and all the other ECs you have, I agree with Madaboutx.

I too had my own business reselling iOS accessories. I started in 7th grade (2007) with the iPod Touch and later with the iPhone 3G. I got contacts in Asia to mass produce multiple types of cases for the iPhone. (Gel, Hard Rubber, Plastic Snap-On, and gel + snap on). I was the wholesaler to many major powersellers on eBay and my profits were 5 figures each quarter until 2009 when I quit to focus on the stock market.

There I managed a 21% AAROR and beat the S&P 500 for the past 3 years.

I was deferred ED because my GPA. I assume my essays were half decent and my test scores too are decent (35 ACT w/ 10 Writing, 760 Math II, 800 Physics, 770 Chemistry, and 800 US History). I had other ECs (mainly business) but my GPA is a 3.3…

I actually still have boxes of cases in the garage that were unsold. Not sure what to do with them, I gave some away to friends since they only cost my around $.81 to make and they no longer even fit my 5… Anybody want some free iPhone cases? lol

In reality, I really do not thing Wharton or Penn in general care about business extracurriculars. My interview was really impressed and I assume he wrote a good review about me since he called the day after decisions were released and sounded disappointed that I did not get in… Oh well, I’ve moved on and I wish you the best of luck.

God you guys sounds like egotistical applicants who are trying to one-up eachother. Yes, you are a qualified applicant… good luck.

I was an applicant. Keyword… WAS.

What if you are the founder of a website that makes about $3.5 million dollars in profit a year? I started it when I was a freshman.

And, speaking as someone with a lot of experience in this field, this is a pretty nice looking website. Did you make the website yourself?

Yes I did.

Honestly a retail business online is not the hardest thing in the world to do, in fact it is relatively easy. For example there are companies in Houston that manufacture lanyards for pennies, it is very easy to make a website that sells them for lets say a dollar. It is not very creative or hard and therefor is not a “GREAT” ec. It is obviously better than nothing, but it is not like you are making the cases yourself or that selling iphone cases is a new idea.

Accepted at Wharton!!

Nice!^
