I have a 3.7 GPA at a very good school, 2350 SAT, I'm a URM, and have decent extracurriculars...but nothing related to business. I'm very interested in economics and I think that's reflected in my application, but I haven't done anything tangible like starting a business etc. How good would my chances be? I'm not sure whether to apply to Wharton or just the economics program in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Depends of what your other ECs are…have you held any significant leadership positions? You say your interested in economics; do you have economics-related activities (research, clubs, awards, etc.)?

I have three leadership positions but they’re not really related to economics. By “reflected in my application” I meant more like incorporating it into some of my essays, but apparently the prompts on the Penn supplement aren’t very well suited toward that. So I’m not sure how I could convey my interest…

I’ll also add that I’m not very good at math, and apparently that’s very important at Wharton…I’m still in pre-calc, but due to reasons entirely out of my control (I swear). I did get a 750 on the math section of the SAT though.

So I’m not sure whether to even bother applying to Wharton or to just apply to CAS

Bump I need advice

I think you should check out the courses that Wharton offers and see whether you can find one concentration of interest to you. My advice is that you should apply for CAS econ if you are not that sure of entering business in the future.

Concentrations include: finance (produces bankers and Wall street fund managers), real estate, marketing (what I love about Wharton), insurance, operations…

Good luck with your application.:)
