applying too early?

i wanna apply january of junior year.
too early?

Eh…yea, that’s way too early. The CommonApp for your cycle doesn’t come out until June of the year you apply. Can’t hurt to start on those essays though since they’re 95% to stay the same.

What would you gain by applying so early? It seems like a smarter idea to just hold off on applying/sending in your application to give yourself time to review it/revise your essays, right?

i heard that it helps to apply ED and EA so my thinking was apply early

Yeah but the kids who apply ED/EA have until (usually) November of their senior year to apply.

Do colleges even take applications that early? Even if they did, I would not recommend doing it. ED is usually fall of your senior year, and make sure you know what you’re getting in to before you do it. There’s no backing out. Take the summer to work on your essays, research the colleges you’re interested in a little more, maybe go visit a few. I don’t see why you would want to apply before your senior year.

I don’t think any schools allow that. Gotta use current materials, and those aren’t out till summer.

Only consider that if you’re planning to graduate early. Otherwise, apply for the session that matches your Freshman entry date

Do you mean January of senior year?

Less than 1% (If any) of colleges would accept you’re application as a junior, especially before the second semester is over.

How about sending the test scores early?

Sending test scores early is fine. Many people do that to take advantage of the free score reports and the colleges just file them until they receive an application.

January of senior year is applying early, and most universities allow such. Though junior year, ACT’s must be taken on testing date, see further into grades etc… I haven’t known a university accepting a student that early, but it may be possible.

It depends on the school. For the top privates, the EA deadlines are Nov 1st, so that they have the time to go over everything for release on Dec 15th. For RD, everything’s due on Jan 1st, and stuff is released on Apr 1st.

For public schools that offer rolling (aka Michigan), you can do ER where you can apply starting in September, and you’ll be guaranteed a decision early. Some publics, like UC Berkeley, will limit the application time-window so that you can’t apply early and they’ll look at all the applications at one given time period.

'January of senior year is applying early, and most universities allow such"
Huh??? Jan of senior year is too LATE to apply to many colleges! Acceptance letters come out only 2-3 months later! And many colleges have Jan 1 application deadlines.

Oh right, I’m thinking September.

The earliest colleges start taking apps is usually in september or so, but even then it is pretty ridiculously early…

September of Senior year is the earliest they’ll take applications, but why bother rushing? If its not rolling, you’ll receive your decision at the same time as the person who applied the night before the deadline and believe me, you’re not winning any brownie points for applying super early.

Actually a lot of colleges accept applications from juniors. USC has a special program for them, and Princeton also accepts applications. I’m sure there are plenty of others, too.

Oh wow really, so I can somehow apply to USC right now?
