<p>I am currently a freshman in college, and I am looking to transfer. I want to apply to a few privates this year, making me a potential sophomore transfer. However, if I do not get in, can I still apply as a junior transfer a year later? Does this affect/hurt my chances?</p>
<p>No it does not. Make sure you talk to your parents about the potential cost differences for the schools. Transfers usually get little or no aid.</p>

<p>Merit aid is definitely less frequent and usually for smaller amounts for transfers. And many schools give less need based FA to transfers, but there are other schools that treat transfers like fr admits for FA. Many of these are the most selective for admissions, but they can be very generous with FA if admitted.</p>
