Hello

I intend to apply to VT but I am unsure about selecting a major (from NOVA area)

If I were to be accepted, I think I would aim for computer engineering/science major. However I know that VT Engineering is very competitive and I am not sure whether I would be accepted, esp. with my below average math/science grades.

GPA: 3.97
SAT: 700 Math, 730 CR

Honors Bio, Reg. Chemistry, Honors Physics: A-, A, B
Honors AL1, Honors Geometry, Honors AL 2, Reg Precalc, AB Calc: A,B+,B, B, B (1st Sem)

On top of that I am not even sure if I want to do Engineering for sure.

If I were to apply undecided, would that hurt my chances?
Or should I apply for Liberal Arts (which is what I am applying to for my other schools), and switch to Engineering later if I wanted to change?

Thanks

Applying undecided (I.e. university studies) will not hurt your chances. Only you can decide whether you really want to major in engineering. I’m guessing you don’t really want to since you like liberal arts for other schools.

If you think you want to do engineering, then you should apply for it. You would select General Engineering as your first choice major and university studies or whatever liberal arts major you want. If you are not competitive for it they will automatically evaluate you for your second choice major.

I would recommend applying University Studies just because you are unsure of Liberal Arts vs. Engineering. That’s what University Studies was made for, so you have a little time to feel everything out before you pick a major.

Did you see their Business Information Technology major? It’s mostly computer oriented and I saw a spreadsheet somewhere here on CC where 89% of the graduates got jobs in the field with a starting salary near $65k.
