Does applying undeclared to the UCs hurt your chances of getting in? Or does it help you?

I have no idea what I want to do, and my first choice is UCLA.

yayy i have the same question ^^

I would say by the sheer number of UC applicants it makes no difference. Your acceptance into UCLA is going to be driven by your stats, not your major.

I have been told by the admissions folks at several UC's that it doesn't matter. However, be aware that certain programs are impacted and may be difficult to transfer into if you decide its something you want to pursue (like engineering).

Read the FAQ on the admissions page of any UC school. It does not matter what major you put down (or if you say undeclared) if you are applying to the College of Letters & Science. If you are applying elsewhere (Fine Arts, Engineering, etc) then it DOES matter.
