Applying, with impacted major

If I apply to school under an impacted major, does it actually hurt my chances to get into the school? I mean, do they just accept you into the school (assuming you've done well enough), and just not accept you into the particular major, or do they just reject you all together?

the "impacted major" means that there are certain number of spots for that specific major - for example bioengineering is impacted in many schools... meaning the competition to get that spot is high because everyone has good gpa, sat scores, good ec's and etc.. this thus diminishes the chances for individuals to get into the school even. and yes, if you don't qualify or isn't competitive enough, then they won't accept you. But you should really ask your school administration for detaiks, I'm telling you what i know :)

if you have good stats,,, then go for it... :)

I'm debating whether or not I should declare my major or apply undeclared, because if it'll hurt my chances to get into the school just because I'm applying to a certain major, I don't want to apply under that major.

anyone else?

There's a good chance you will never get the desired major if you don't apply for it as a freshman. Like all the kids who apply to Penn and thought they'd slink into Wharton.

Alright... but if I apply under that major, can I still be accepted to that school and be forced to choose a different major?

It all depends on what school/U you're applying to. For example, at a UC school if you apply to engineering and don't get in you're rejected from the UC, even if you would have been accepted had you applied for a Letters & Science major like history or biology.

Yeah, I'm talking about UCLA and UCSD.... should I apply as undeclared to increase my chances?
