Applying with the subject you are BEST SUITED for?

Here's my issue:

I'm a junior in high school

I have to opportunity to do this University of Rochester Lab for Laser Energetics internship thing for juniors where you work for 8 weeks of the summer and get paid to do your own research relating to lasers

OR

I could go to the University of Toronto and shadow a biological researcher for 2 weeks while staying in Toronto, though I'll do no research of my own

I won't be able to do both

I want to do biological research at (ideally) Cornell or Rice

The laser lab seems like a better opportunity but the University of Toronto thing is focused on biology

Is it better to do the Laser Lab or the University of Toronto thing if I'm going to apply to colleges with the intended major of biology?

For the record I'm not sure which I would rather do

pleease reply if you have any insight,

I’ve heard before that places will reject you simply for applying for a school there that you aren’t best suited for (i.e. biology instead of engineering)

Honestly… I don’t know much of anything about this but logically… it seems like you’re a bit young to have monumental success that could influence your acceptance with independent research whereas a recommendation from an expert in your field could be quite helpful. On the other hand, both are rather impressive and you should really do what you think would be the better experience for you personally.
Hope that helps!
