Okay, so I had planned from the start to apply to Tech RD, but after a visit to the campus yesterday and talking to several people there, I learned I have a much better chance of admission EA. Obviously, this puts me in a little bit of a time crunch to complete their supplements, send transcripts, etc. but I think I can do that. I know a recommendation isn't technically required, but I did plan on having one from my math teacher when I applied RD just to give me that extra boost. Has anyone here had experience applying/getting in without a recommendation?

My daughter did not submit a recommendation for EA last year. She did not receive admission from EA or RD, but rather got in from the waitlist. It was her GPA that caused her to be deferred and then waitlisted. Don’t let that keep you from applying early if that’s what you want to do.

My daughter got in EA without a rec. (She was supposed to have one but her teacher couldn’t get it downloaded to common app in time.) Definitely apply EA.

@Stilltay If you don’t mind me asking what were your daughter’s stats? My test scores are a bit low for a typical engineering candidate, and I was hoping a favorable math teacher rec might give me a little boost.

Tech doesn’t take you major into account for admissions does it?

No, they do not Veruca.

@zoe. My daughter had 730 cr/670m/720w which is low on the math for engineering major, which she didn’t think she would be, but now is considering. She ap’d out of calc 1 and so far is doing well in calc 2. Her gpa was 3.85 uw with 7 ap. she is instate which makes a little difference, as does her gender.
