Applying

What needs to be done for applying? Is there a timeline somewhere with what needs to be done and when it should be done? I’m going to be a senior this year, is there anything I should be doing this summer if I want to get in?

Wow, go on the website and see, but it seems as if you are behind the power curve. The application process is much more complicated (and sometimes convoluted) than civilian colleges. Our son applied for summer seminar in February of his Junior year, making him a candidate and getting a candidate number. If I remember correctly, our son’s scores were from the early spring of his Junior year and he had them sent directly to the academies, and he went to have his physical in the summer before his senior year. Members of Congress usually make nominations in the early fall, and rolling admissions begin shortly thereafter. Make it happen if you want it, apply now!

I’m also applying for USAFA, and I have to agree with everything momof1 said. Start now. Seriously. Go on the website, fill out the preapplication, and shoot an email to your ALO. Also, make sure to contact a few of your teachers/counselor to do letters of rec for your congressional nomination applications (and apply for the nom from both your senators as well as your rep). Also, keep up the exercise. There’s a physical fitness portion of the application. Good luck! :)

I just wanted to let you know you are not necessarily behind. Some have started applying already, but you still have time. My roommate from last year (who graduated in May) didn’t even start applying until late September her senior year. I am not saying I recommend this, just that it is possible, so don’t panic.
