Applying

Is it usually easier to get into a school w/ an engineering major? Will the criteria be higher though?

I would swear that it’s usually HARDER to get into a school with engineering major. Where I am, engineering is capped, so it’s hard to get into, and even harder to transfer into.

I would think that engineering would be harder to get into than most liberal arts/natural science majors.

Yeah I agree it is generally harder, but it also depends on what college you apply to.

But fewer people apply for an engineering major as compared to other ones, right? Wouldn’t that make it easier b/c the school has to fill up slots for engineering majors?

I think a lot of it would depend on what college you are applying to. Some places have a lot of people applying for engineering majors, especially if the school is well known for engineering. The standards would likely be higher as well because they want people with strong math and science skills (obviously).

For a school like MIT, probably not. But what about HYPS? Are any of them really good for engineering and therefore have a higher selectivity for engineering majors?
